The Holy Spirit (Part Six)

The Holy Spirit's work in the Holy Scriptures is very crucial.  In fact, we will see what that work entails.

Speaks in prophets - So when they did not agree among themselves, they departed after Paul had said one word:  "The Holy Spirit spoke rightly through Isaiah the prophet to our fathers, saying 'Go to this people and say:  'Hearing you will hear, and shall not understand; and seeing you will see, and not perceive;  For the heart of this people has grown dull, Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, lest they should understand with their heart and turn, So that I should heal them"' (Acts 28:25-27).

Isaiah 6:9, 10 - And He said, "God, and tell this people:  Keep on hearing, but do not understand; keep on seeing, but do not perceive. '"Make the heart of this people dull, And their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; Lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And return and be healed"

Jeremiah 5:21 - "Hear this now, O foolish people, without understanding, who have eyes and see not, And who have ears and hear not"

Psalms - "Men and brethren, this Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus:  "for he was numbered with us and obtained a part in this ministry" (Acts 1:16, 17).

Psalm 41:9 - "Even my own familiar friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted up his heel against me."  This prophecy was pointing to Judas who betrayed Jesus.

John 13:18 - "I do not speak concerning all of you, I know whom I have chosen; but that the Scripture may be fulfilled, 'He who eats bread with Me has lifted up his heel against Me.'"

All Scripture - "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work" (2 Timothy 3:16, 17).

2 Peter 1:20, 21 - "...knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of men, but holy men of God spoke as hey were moved by the Holy Spirit."

His Sword - "And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Holy Spirit which is the Word of God" (Ephesians 6:17).

Hebrews 4:12 - "For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart,"

Isaiah 49:2 - "And He has made My mouth like a two-edged sword."

Revelation 1:16 - "He had in His hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength."

Revelation 2:12 - "And to the angel of Pergamos, write, 'These things says He who has the sharp two-edged sword.'"

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. God's Word is Truth.  It sanctifies, edifies, teaches and convicts us.  It is our weapon (sword) against the spirit of error which is found in false teachings (doctrines) spread by the devil, the father of lies.
