The Holy Spirit (Part Five)
The Holy Spirit was very much involved in the life and ministry of Jesus Christ.
Christ Conceived by - And the angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, the Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God" (Luke 1:35).
Miracles Performed by - "But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you" (Matthew 12:28). It is through the power of the Holy Spirit that demons, unclean spirits are cast out.
Anointed By - Then Jesus, when He had been baptized came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighted upon Him (Matthew 3:16).
Supported and filled by - Then, Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness (Luke 4:1).
And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: "The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me to preach the Gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To preach deliverance to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed (downtrodden)" (Luke 4:17, 18).
Offered to God by - how much more shall the blood of Christ who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot (blemish) to God, purge (cleanse) your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?" (Hebrews 9:14). The Holy Spirit is the High Priest offering Christ, the Sacrifice (the Lamb of God) for our sins.
Raised by - "...and declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead" (Romans 1:4).
Justified by - "And without controversy great is the mystery (hidden truth) of godliness:
- God was manifested in the flesh (John 1:14)
- Justified in the Spirit (Matthew 3:16)
- Seen by angels (Matthew 28:2)
- Preached among the Gentiles (Romans 10:18)
- Believed on in the world (Colossians 1:5,6,23
- Received up in glory" (Luke 24:51) - 1 Timothy 3:16
