The Holy Spirit (Part Four)

What is the work of the Holy Spirit in the world?  The Word of God tells us.

Creates -  "The Spirit of God has made me, And the breath of the Almighty gives me life" (Job 33:4). He is the Spirit of life.

Renews - "Until the Spirit is poured upon us from on high, And the wilderness becomes a fruitful field, And the fruitful field is counted as a forest" (Isaiah 32:15).

Convicts men - "And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged" (John 16:8-11).

Conviction is making one conscious of his guilt.  This is the work of the Holy Spirit.  He makes us aware of the sin in our lives and is there to help us to put it away (forsake it) and seek Jesus Christ who died for our sins.

"Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ." Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" (Acts 2:36, 37).

When the people heard the words of Peter regarding Jesus, they were convicted by the Holy Spirit. Peter and the rest of the apostles had been filled with the Holy Spirit on that day which was Day of Pentecost. It was the Holy Spirit who was speaking through Peter.
