Faithfulness Illustrated in Different Lives

We see examples of faithfulness in the lives of several Bible characters.

Abraham - So then those who are of faith are bless with believing Abraham (Galatians 3:9).

Abraham's servant - Abraham sent his oldest servant to his country and to his relatives to take a wife for Isaac.  The servant went and when he was outside of the city of Nahor, he prayed and asked God, "O LORD, God of my master Abraham, please give me success this day and show kindness to my master Abraham."  He asked God to let it be that the young woman who lets down her pitcher for him to drink water and offers to give the camels water as well be the one God has chosen for Isaac.

Before he finished praying, Rebekah showed up.  It turned out that she was the woman whom God had chosen to be Isaac's wife.  God had answered the servant's prayer right away--even before he was finished praying.  The servant saw that God had made his journey prosperous and he blessed Him, saying, "Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken His mercy and His truth toward my master.  As for me, being on the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master's brethren."

Rebekah ran and told her family and Laban went to meet the servant by the well.  He took him to the house where the camels were unloaded, provided with straw and feed.  The servant had water to wash his feet and food was set before him but he refused to eat before he had a chance to tell them about his errand (Genesis 24:1-35).

We see the servant's faithfulness to Abraham when he called upon the LORD God of heaven who took Abraham from his father's house and from the land of his kindred and who spoke to him and swore to him, saying, "To your descendants I give this land.  Abraham told his servant, "He will send His angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there."

The servant called upon God to help him in his errand to find a wife for Isaac.  He made a very specific request, even down to what the woman would say and do when he asked her to let down her pitcher so that he may drink.  God answered his request/prayer exactly--down to the last detail.  The servant blessed God for His faithfulness to Abraham.

Joseph - And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph's hand all the prisoners who were in the prison;  whatever they did there, it was his doing.  The keeper of the prison did not look into anything that was under Joseph's hand, because the LORD made it to prosper (Genesis 39:22, 23).  In spite of his circumstances--being in prison for being falsely accused of attempted rape, Joseph remained faithful to God who was with him, showing him mercy and favor.

Moses - "Not so with My servant Moses; He is faithful in all My house" (Numbers 12:7).  This was God coming to Moses' defense when Miriam and Aaron spoke against him because of his Ethiopian wife.

David - "For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God.  For all His judgments were before me; And as for His statutes, I did not depart from them.  I was also blameless before Him, And I kept myself from my iniquity.  Therefore the LORD has recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to my cleanness in His eyes" (2 Samuel 22:22-25).

In Psalm 119:3, the psalmist blessed those who "do not iniquity;  they walk in His ways."
