The Holy Spirit (Part 10)
There were people in the Bible who were filled with the Holy Spirit. Who were they?
Bezalel - Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: "See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship" (Exodus 31:1-3).
Jesus - Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness (Luke 4:10.
John the Baptist - "For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb" (Luke 1:15).
Elizabeth - And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:41).
Zacharias - Now his father, Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied (Luke 1:67).
Pentecost Christians - Now when the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance (Acts 2:1-4).
Peter - Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people and elders of Israel" (Acts 4:8).
Seven men - "Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business; but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the Word." And the saying pleased the whole multitude. And they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas and Nicolas, a proselyte from Antioch (Acts 6:3-5). Proselyte was a convert to Judaism.
Stephen - But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God (Acts 7:55).
Barnabas - Then the news of these things came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent out Barnabas to go as far as Antioch. For he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord (Acts 11:22, 24).
Paul - Then, Saul, who also is called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked intently at him (Acts 13:9). Paul was staring at a Jewish man named Bar-Jesus who was a sorcerer, a false prophet, He was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. He called for Barnabas and Saul and because he wanted to hear the word of God but the sorcerer, whose name was translated Elymas opposed the two disciples, intending to turn the proconsul away from the faith.
Paul rebuked the sorcerer, saying, “O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord? And now, indeed, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you shall be blind, not seeing the sun for a time.” And immediately a dark mist fell on him, and he went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand. Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had been done, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord (verses 6-8, 10-12).
Certain disciples - And the disciples wee filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit (Acts 13:52). These disciples were Paul and Barnabas.
The apostles - And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the Word of God with boldness (Acts 4:31).
